Police: Manslaughter Suspect Had Fake Plates & No License

SAN ANTONIO, TX – An 18-year-old man is facing manslaughter charges after T-boning another driver.

According to SAPD,  Justin Matthew Ortiz was driving a 1987 black GMC Sierra on February 8th.

The subsequent investigation revealed Ortiz was on Commercial Ave. when he revved his engine while passing another driver.

Ortiz, who was traveling 25 mph over the speed limit, hit a wet spot in the road and was propelled into oncoming traffic.

Ortiz then collided with a 2009 gray GMC Sierra. The driver, identified as 23-year-old John Gavin Mendoza, died at the scene.

During the investigation, SAPD determined Ortiz did not have a driver's license and his truck had fake license plates.

Ortiz admitted to authorities that he had built the truck to his preferred performance specs.
