Missing Cat Found After Four Years

KERRVILLE, TX – After believing his cat was dead for more than four years, a military man may soon be reunited with his beloved pet.

According to the owner, Butch Meiste, he adopted "Captain" from the Animal Defense League in 2015. After being deployed oversees the cat was left in the care of his ex who eventually told Meiste the cat had died.

More than four years later Captain was rescued by two kids who found him on the side of the road. The cat was then taken to a local animal shelter.

Staff at the animal shelter believe Captain had been previously spotted at a feral colony near the Whataburger in Kerrville. Captain is now 9-years-old and had spent nearly half of his life away from his owner.

After he was taken to a local animal shelter, the cat was scanned for a microchip. The data on the chip identified Meiste as his owner and the clinic attempted to call the San Antonio number listed in the chip.

Unfortunately, the number was disconnected so the clinic turned to social media to locate the owner.

Dr. Shelby Key was able to find Meiste and inform him his cat was not dead, much to his surprise. Meiste now lives in Little Rock, Arkansas and the shelter is looking for a way to reunite cat and man.

Anyone interested in helping can contact Dr. Key at (830) 257-4144.
