Violent Murder Suspect Killed During Shootout with Cops

 

LUBBOCK, TX – A murder investigation ended in another death after a suspect was killed in a gunfight with deputies Friday.

According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office,  around 9:30 p.m. on Friday dispatch received a call regarding shots fired.

When deputies arrived at the 6400 block of CR 7415 they located 56-year-old Russell Coats. 

Coats was deceased and appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds.

The initial investigations revealed Coats had been killed by 34-year-old Chase Coats. It is unclear at this time if there is any relationship between the suspect or victim.

When Baylor County deputies attempted to detain the suspect, he began firing at the officers.

The deputies returned the gunfire and Coats was killed during the exchange.

The incident is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
