Houston Woman Charged in Brutal Genital Mutilation Case

HOUSTON,TX- A Houston woman, Zadra Badri, is being charged with the brutal practice of female gential mutilation that involves a child.

Badri, originally from the United Kingdom, took the minor to an unnamed country from the United States for gential mutilation.

“The brutal practice of female gential mutilation not only subjects victims to the immediate trauma of the violent act, but also often condemns them to suffer a lifetime of physical and psychological harms.” Acting Assistant Attorney General David P. Burns said.

According to the World Health Organization, the practice of FGM (female gential mutilation) is mainly North-Eastern, Eastern Africa and some Middle East countries and Asia. This particular case occurred in 2016 and is the first-ever indictment for female gential mutilation in the United States.
