LUBBOCK, TX — A former elementary teacher at Lubbock-Cooper ISD has been sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to taking inappropriate videos of students in March of last year.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, 36-year-old Cody Lee Taylor pleeded guilty to invasive visual recording. He was sentenced to two years of state jail but the sentence was suspended for probation.
Back in March, two girls disclosed the incident to teachers at Lubbock Cooper North Elementary School.
“The girls were crying and visibly shaking,” stated the arrest warrant. “[The girls] reported that the Defendant was taking pictures of them with a camera under a table and that they were scared of him.”
When Taylor was confronted by school administrators, he refused to relinquish his phone. Once a warrant for his home and phone was obtained, investigators found a deleted video that appeared to show a student’s crotch area while in a classroom.
During a forensic review of Taylor’s phone investigators found “manual searches” with “multiple key terms related to child pornography.”
Taylor eventually admitted to searching for child pornography when he was around 25 but denied looking at that type of content now.
According to the warrant, when Taylor was questioned: “why he would his phone underneath a desk and point the camera lens on the phone directly at a juvenile female’s crotch area, he stated it was just an accident.”
On Thursday Taylor pled guilty to invasive visual recording.
