Police: Suspect Killed Inside Walmart After Shooting at Officers

WESLACO, TX -- An armed suspect was killed after shooting at police inside Walmart.

According to KTXS, the Weslaco Police Department received calls that stated a man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle near the front of the store.

According to the initial reports the suspect was engaged in a confrontation with another customer.

After the confrontation, the man walked to the back of the store.

The call prompted officers to respond to the Walmart within minutes.

"Our response time was two minutes, within those two minutes we had 17 officers and four deputy constables arrive to the scene," said Weslaco Police Chief Joel Rivera.

When officers arrived at the scene they instructed the suspect to put the rifle down. The suspect complied but began to act distraught and refused to show officers his hand.

The suspect then pulled out a handgun and began firing at the officers. The officers returned the gunfire and the suspect was struck multiple times.

The suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene. No further information has been released regarding the suspect.

The investigation is being handled by the Texas Ranger.
