Flatonia, TX — Fayette County Sheriff's Office deputies conducted a traffic stop outside of Flatonia, Tx where 350 lbs of marijuana was found hidden in the septic tank of a cleaning truck on Tuesday.
In a press release, Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek said the county’s drug interdiction team made a traffic stop on Interstate 10 at mile marker 622 near Flatonia which lead to the arrests and seizures.
During the traffic stop both the driver and passenger were seen “exhibiting nervous behavior,” and investigators were immediately given consent to search the vehicle.
When deputies opened the lid to the cleaning tank on the 2014 Dodge septic cleaning truck, investigators found multiple 'bundles' wrapped in cellophane, axle grease, and tape “consistent with illegal narcotics,” Korenek said on Tuesday.
Once authorities removed the packaging, and inspected the bundles, the confirmed payload totaled roughly 350 pounds of raw marijuana.
Along with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office drug interdiction team, the Flatonia police department assisted in the investigation which led to the narcotics seizure.
The driver, identified as 45-year-old Stephanie Navejar, and the passenger, 53-year-old Jorge Sanchez, both residents of Cotulla, Texas, were arrested and face felony possession of marijuana charges at this time.
