BENJAMIN, TX — A gunman targeting vehicles on Hwy 82 was shot by a State Trooper after the gunman committed a series of crimes on Thursday morning.
According to KTXS, a driver targeted by the gunman provided an account of the dramatic scene.
The driver stated he was on his way to Lubbock when he observed a red mustang partially blocking the highway.
As the driver slowed down the suspect, a white male, exited the Mustang and began shooting at him. The driver then attempted to back up but decided to exit his vehicle and run away from the shooter. He then jumped onto the hood of a second vehicle that was also backing up.
The suspect then jumped into the victim’s 18-wheeler and took off with a second suspect, a Hispanic female.
The suspect and his accomplice were stopped by a state trooper and the Knox County Sheriff, Hunter Embesi. The traffic stop was conducted about 8.5 miles west of Benjamin.
According to DPS, the white male exited the 18-wheeler with a gun in hand. He refused to put the gun down instructed by the officers.
The suspect then pointed the gun at the officers and Sheriff Embesi and the trooper fired their weapons.
The suspect was then airlifted to Lubbock University Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries. The female suspect was booked into the Knox County Jail. As of this time the names of the suspects have not been released.
