WACO, TX — More than two weeks after two-year-old Frankie Gonzales was found dead in a dumpster of a church in Waco, his father has also been charged in connection to his death
Frankie’s disappearance made headlines at the beginning of June after his mother told police he had disappeared from a public bathroom at Cameron Park. An AMBER Alert was issued for Frankie, but the next day his mother confessed he had died days before and she had thrown him away in the dumpster.
According to CBS7, Frankie’s father Lorenzo Gonzales was charged with abandoning or endangering a child.
According to police, Gonzales has signed an official agreement with the Department of Family and Protective Services in which he agreed to not leave the children unsupervised with Laura Sanchez, Frankie’s mother, “due to risk of harm to the children.”
Court records indicate Sanchez had lost custody of her six older children years ago after allegations of neglect came to light.
Police said the father “intentionally left the children alone and unsupervised with Laura in violation of the agreement that was made with the state,” which “ultimately led to the injuries and death of Frankie Gonzales.”
Gonzales is currently being held on an immigration detainer, which provides federal immigration agents additional time to decide if he will be taken into custody for deportation purposes.
