GAINESVILLE, TX — Jeremy Brown is facing a capital murder charge after 3-month-old Lyrick Brown tragically drowned. An AMBER Alert was issued earlier this week after Brown allegedly abducted his daughter.
According to the Gainesville Daily Register, Brown faces a first-degree felony charge of capital murder of a child under 10.
On Tuesday afternoon Gainesville Fire-Rescue personnel were called to a motor vehicle at the Red River bridge on the northbound lane on I-35. When authorities arrived, they found Brown’s gray 2011 Volkswagen Jetta overturned in the water. According to previous reports Lyrik was strapped to her car seat inside the car.
Brown was also in the river next to the vehicle when first responders arrived. He was removed from the river by medical personnel and accessed for injuries. He was then taken into custody.
It is unclear what caused the accident that sent the Jetta into the river.
Brown is also facing a third-degree felony charge of assaulting a family or household member with a previous conviction in connection with the alleged assault involving Lyrik’s mother before he abducted the baby.
If convicted Brown could face the death penalty.
