Nine Passengers Ejected in Fatal Rollover Crash

SAN MARCOS, TX -- A fatal crash Saturday evening left two dead after an SUV carrying 10 passengers flipped multiple times.

According to KTXS, San Marcos Police officers responded to the 200 block of 1-35 northbound fo reports of a crash. According to police, the white 2002 Ford Explorer ran off the interstate and flipped multiple times before landing on the access road.

The group, comprised of five adults and five children who were traveling from San Antonio to Austin, to a family gathering.

According to police, nine of the ten passengers were ejected from the vehicle. Police confirmed only the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Police are still investigating, but believe the cause of the crash was a blown tire paired with speed. Additionally, a Ford Explorer only can hold five passengers.

Three of the five kids, ages seven, eight, and nine were transported to Children’s Hospital in Austin and are in critical non-stable condition. 

The two other children, ages eight and ten, did not require hospital care and were released to relatives.

Three of the adults were transported to Seton Ascension Hospital in Kyle with multiple injuries.

The two passengers who lost their lives were identified as 24-year-old Destiny Bridges and 31-year-old Sean Thompson. Bridges was pronounced dead at the scene while Thompson died at Seton Ascension Hospital after he was taken to be treated for his injuries.
