Suspects Arrested After Police Find Child Locked in Shed

DALLAS, TX –Officers with the Dallas Police Department arrested two individuals Sunday night after they located a 6-year-old boy locked in a shed.

According to KTXS, the officers responded to the 1100 block of Coston Dr. in southeast Dallas for a welfare check. The child’s grandmother Esmeralda Lira, 53, told officers the child was with his mother.

A witness guided the officers until they located the boy locked inside a shed in the back of the property. The child was checked out by Dallas Fire-Rescue but they did not transport him to the hospital.

Lira and her live-in boyfriend Jose Balderas were arrested and face felony charges of endangering a child.

The 6-year-old boy, his 7-year-old sister and 4-year-old brother were placed in foster care according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The case remains under investigation.

"Due to the nature of the offense, this is all the information that is available," Melinda Gutierrez, Dallas Police Department spokeswoman in a statement.
