Update: Suspect Shot Multiple Times In Officer Involved Shooting

 

BOERNE, TX — The Boerne Police Department closed down a section of Interstate 10 westbound as they investigate an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon.

According to My San Antonio, the highway will be shut down until further notice. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

No further details have been released regarding the shooting.

UPDATE on April 9, 2020, @ 3:00 p.m.

Boerne Police has reopened the part of I-10 that was shut down earlier this morning as a result of the officer-involved shooting.

According to authorities, at approximately 9:32 a.m., officers were dispatched to 35000 IH-10 West for "a disturbance involving a weapon."

Officers were told the suspect was chasing another man while holding a rifle or shotgun. When officers arrived on the scene the suspect drive by them fleed the scene.  Boerne Police Officers and Kendall County Sheriff Office Deputies gave chase to the suspect. The chase continued onto IH-10 westbound heading toward Comfort. 

During the chase, the suspect stopped his vehicle and exited the vehicle with a shotgun. He then fired the weapon towards officers. Officers and a deputy returned the fire and struck the suspect multiple times. A deputy was shot in the arm and was released after receiving treatment.

The suspect was flown to San Antonio Military Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
