Texas Teen on Life Support After Severe Flu Complications

PEARSALL, TX – A 17-year-old Pearsall High School senior is fighting for her life in a Houston hospital after contracting the flu and suffering multiple cardiac arrests.

Alina Valenzuela, described by her sister Leticia as energetic and driven, was transferred to a Houston medical facility after going into cardiac arrest. She suffered another cardiac event while being transported. Doctors later diagnosed her with myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart linked to flu complications, requiring multiple surgeries and placing her in intensive care on life support.

This is not Alina’s first health battle. At 14, she contracted COVID-19, leading to severe complications that resulted in the loss of her leg. Over the past four years, she has undergone three open-heart surgeries and extensive rehabilitation.

Leticia Valenzuela has organized a fundraiser to help cover medical expenses. As of Thursday, the campaign had raised more than $5,000 toward its $10,000 goal.

Donations for Alina’s medical care can be made through her GoFundMe page.
