ERCOT Issues Weather Watch Amid Forecasted Cold Weather

AUSTIN, TX — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has issued a Weather Watch for January 20-23 in anticipation of extreme cold weather across the ERCOT region, which may result in higher electrical demand and potentially lower reserves.

Despite the forecast, grid conditions are expected to remain normal, with no immediate energy emergency anticipated.

ERCOT stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and will deploy all necessary tools to manage the grid while prioritizing reliability. Texans are encouraged to stay informed by signing up for grid condition updates via the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS) or by visiting ERCOT’s website.

The Weather Watch serves as an early notification of significant weather events that could impact electrical demand. No action is required from residents at this time, but ERCOT advises continued monitoring of real-time conditions online.

To help manage peak demand, ERCOT suggests energy-saving measures such as reducing electricity usage during high-demand periods.

Additional updates can be accessed through the ERCOT Emergency Alerts system and the organization’s mobile apps.
