Strong west winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected, creating hazardous conditions for outdoor activities and travel, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to secure loose objects and exercise caution on the roads.
A powerful Arctic front is forecast to move into the region late Friday night, plunging temperatures to the teens by Monday and Tuesday mornings. Daytime highs are expected to remain below freezing during this period, with wind chills falling into the single digits. Bitterly cold conditions are anticipated to persist through mid-week, with potential impacts on people, pets, and plants.
The NWS advises residents to dress in warm layers, limit time spent outdoors, and protect pipes, pets, and sensitive plants. Elderly neighbors and family members should also be checked on during this severe cold snap.
There is a 20-40% chance of light snowfall Monday night into Tuesday, primarily in eastern areas of the Concho Valley. Snow accumulations are expected to remain below 1 inch, but uncertainty remains about the timing and specific locations of precipitation.
