Texas DPS Trooper Succumbs to Injuries Following Ector County Crash

 

ODESSA, TX - Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez has passed away after succumbing to injuries sustained in a crash while investigating an accident in Ector County on September 17.

Trooper Vasquez, a U.S. Army veteran and 2023 graduate of DPS Class A-23, was struck by a vehicle while assisting at the scene. He was initially transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa before being airlifted to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, where he fought for his life.

Trooper Vasquez passed away with his family by his side on the morning of September 28. In his final act of service, Trooper Vasquez’s organs were donated to save others.

Funeral service details for Trooper Vasquez are pending and will be shared by DPS at a later time.

"Trooper Ramirez Vasquez is a man of valor, honor, purpose, and a true servant leader, he will never be forgotten," the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association stated. 

The Texas DPS Officers Association also asks that the public keep Trooper Vasquez’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
