Air Tankers Called In to Fight 24,000 Acre Crockett County Wildfire

OZONA, TX – The Holcomb Road Wildfire in Crockett and Val Verde counties has grown to nearly 24,000 acres and firefighters have called in air tankers to suppress the fire.

As previously reported, on Sunday, April 19, firefighters with the Texas A&M Forest Service were called in to fight a wildfire along with Crockett County firefighters near Holcomb Road at around 7 p.m. Sunday.  Check out the article here: Crockett County Wildfire Burns 10,000 Acres

The next few days the fire continued to burn and got up to 18,500 acres burned. With tons of work from firefighters and bulldozers the fire became 15% contained.

Now that winds have picked up the fire continues to get larger and is now burned 23,922 acres. It is still at 15% contained.

According to the TAMFS, the increase in acreage is due to yesterday's fire growth and firing operations conducted to strengthen the containment lines. Fire behavior is very active with group torching in juniper and spotting. The fire continues to have high potential for growth. Crews continue to build direct fire line where possible and improve indirect lines to prepare for burn out operations when conditions allow it.

Air tankers have now been called in to help fight the fire. Check out the video here.
