UPDATE: Firefighters Combating Huge Wildfire in Crockett and Val Verde Counties

 

OZONA, TX – The huge wildfire that has spread from Crockett County to Val Verde County is 15 percent contained according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. 

As previously reported, on April 19, firefighters with the Texas A&M Forest Service were called in to fight a wildfire along with Crockett County firefighters near Holcomb Road at around 7 p.m. Sunday.  Check out the article here: Crockett County Wildfire Burns 10,000 Acres

The fire continued to burn on Monday and Tuesday expanding to 17,000 acres burned. At this time the fire was only 5% contained. 

Now that crews have been working around the clock to set up a perimeter around the fire. Bulldozers and fire retardant materials were placed around the fire and now it is 15% contained at 18,500 acres burned.

Fire crews have worked hard to strengthen the containment line on the east side of the fire in preparation for the expected wind shift out of the west throughout Wednesday. More on the extreme fire danger here: Extreme Fire Danger: NWS Issues Red Flag Warning
