Friday Night Roundup: Robert Lee Tops Highland for District Title

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Robert Lee Steers rallied from a 13-point deficit in the second quarter to beat Highland 44-35 to claim the District 7-1A Division I title.

It was the seventh win in a row for Robert Lee since an 0-2 start.

The Steers trailed 27-14 on the road against Highland before scoring the next 28 points to go ahead 42-27.

Highland pulled within 42-35, but the Steers’ defense recorded a safety with 1:51 remaining to seal the win.

Robert Lee improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in district, while Highland fell to 6-3, 3-1.

Robert Lee was led by Josh Garcez, who had 20 carries for 165 yards and three touchdowns, along with three catches for 33 yards and a TD. He also had 14 tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Malachi Wauqua added 13 carries for 110 yards and a TD, and he threw a TD pass.

Robert Lee will finish the regular season next week at home against Coke County rival Bronte, while Highland will travel to Baird.

Alfaro’s 302 Yards Lead Christoval to Upset Win over Forsan

Danny Alfaro rushed for 302 yards as the Christoval Cougars handed the Forsan Buffaloes only their second loss of the season with a 33-13 win.

It dashed Forsan’s hopes for a share of a district title, and it kept Christoval’s playoff dreams alive.

Christoval can still reach the postseason with a win next week at Colorado City — and the Cougars will need help from Sonora by beating Forsan, and from Ozona by beating Ballinger.

Alfaro had 36 carries for 302 yards and three TDs to lead the Cougars’ rushing attack. Forsan’s offense was limited to only 196 yards.

Christoval improved to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in district, while Forsan fell to 7-2, 3-2.

Mason Posts Fourth Shutout of Year Against Brady

The No. 2-ranked Mason Punchers’ defense held its fourth opponent scoreless this season in a 48-0 win over Brady.

Mason’s defense has held six teams to eight points or fewer. Johnson City scored the only touchdown against the Punchers in the month of October.

Mason improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in District 7-2A Division I. The Punchers will look to finish a perfect regular season next week at Coleman.

Brady (0-9, 0-4) will host San Saba for its final game next week.

San Saba Wins Another Defensive Battle Over Bangs

The San Saba Armadillos continue to win low-scoring games, this time by a score of 20-13 over Bangs.

San Saba survived a 7-6 battle a week earlier against Coleman.

Jason Everett had nine carries for 105 yards and a TD to lead the offense, while Jayden Aguirre added 10 carries for 43 yards and a TD, along with an interception on defense.

Graden Lebow had a team-high 18 tackles, followed by Kaylub Roberts with 16 stops. JJ Romero had 14 tackles and an interception. Everett and Danny English also had 14 tackles.

San Saba improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in district, locking up the No. 2 seed in District 7-1A Division I. The Armadillos will visit Brady next week.

Bangs (5-4, 2-2) will host Johnson City next week.
