BLACKWELL, TX — Robert Lee’s Malachi Wauqua had a hand in 13 touchdowns Friday in Robert Lee’s 87-62 win over Blackwell.
Wauqua had 31 carries for 265 yards and seven TDs, and he was 10-of-17 passing for 227 yards and six more scores.
Robert Lee jumped out to a 20-0 lead and never let Blackwell closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Robert Lee’s Major Smith had five catches for 146 yards and four TDs, and he had an interception on defense.
Josh Garcez had three catches for 50 yards and a TD, while Justice Immel had three catches for 42 yards and a TD.
Kris Molinar led the Steers with 12 tackles. Immel and Garcez each added 10.
Brayden Clayborn led Blackwell by throwing for 157 yards and four TDs on 13-of-26 passing, along with three carries for 106 yards and two TDs. He also had a team-high 13 tackles.
Slade Wilkinson had 19 carries for 146 yards and two TDs, four catches for 33 yards and two TDs, and seven tackles.
Zade Linman had two TD catches, along with 10 tackles and a forced fumble. Keagan Reno had three catches for 62 yards and a TD.
Robert Lee (1-2) will host Sterling City next week. Blackwell (1-2) will visit Veribest.
Brady Battles in Loss to Hamilton
The Brady Bulldogs gave defending state champion Hamilton a fight before falling 34-17.
Brady was within 21-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
Hamilton, which won the 2A Division I state title last year, has moved up to 3A D-II and was coming off a 46-44 loss to state power Mason.
Brady was led by running back Johnny Roque, who had 18 carries for 104 yards and a TD, along with seven tackles and two tackles for loss.
Quarterback Blane James was 9-of-16 passing for 184 yards with two TDs and two INTs. He also blocked two field goals.
Josh Thomas had three catches for 118 yards and two TDs. Benjamin Valdez had 11 carries for 72 yards, and he racked up 146 yards on four kickoff returns.
Nasir Menefield had six tackles and two tackles for loss.
Brady (0-3) will continue searching for its first win when it travels to Ballinger next week.
Water Valley Takes Down Another State-Ranked Team
The Water Valley Wildcats claimed their second consecutive win over a Top 10 team with an 89-42 victory over No. 10 Sands.
No. 8 Water Valley should continue to climb up the rankings after the impressive performance. Water Valley beat then-No. 1 Rankin 93-90 last week to break into the Top 10.
Water Valley was led by Branson Lacy, who had 20 carries for 296 yards and five TDs. He was also 12-of-16 passing for 187 yards and five TDs, and he had a team-high 15 tackles and two tackles for loss.
Lance Doss had nine carries for 136 yards and three TDs, and he had seven catches for 66 yards and two TDs.
Bronson Holland added two catches for 66 yards and a TD, while Cole Baker had three catches for 55 yards and two TDs.
Hudson Wiese added 10 tackles.
Sands' Kane Ferguson was tough to slow down as he racked up 484 yards of total offense. He was 14-of-23 passing for 256 yards and two TDs, and he had 20 carries for 228 yards and four TDs.
The Wildcats lost five of their six starters on each side of the ball from last year’s state semifinal team, but they look like a threat to make another deep playoff run.
Water Valley (3-0) will visit a Klondike team next week that began the year ranked No. 9 after its own run to the state semifinals last season. The Cougars’ only setback this year was 54-46 against a Strawn team ranked No. 5 in 1A D-II.
Veribest Improves to 3-0 With Win Over Bronte
The Veribest Falcons continued their hot start to the season with a 60-14 win over Bronte.
It’s Veribest’s third straight win by the 45-point mercy rule, following shutout wins over Santa Anna (48-0) and Paint Rock (57-0).
The Falcons should face their toughest test so far when they host Blackwell next week.

San Saba Falls to No. 10 Goldthwaite
The San Saba Armadillos put up an encouraging fight in a 35-17 loss to Goldthwaite, the No. 10-ranked team in 2A D-II.
San Saba was led by Jason Everett, who had 12 carries for 94 yards and two TDs, along with nine tackles.
Graden Lebow had six carries for 82 yards, and he added eight tackles and a sack.
Brandon Gonzalez had an interception and pass breakup.
San Saba (1-2) will travel to Center Point next week.
Coleman Tops TLCA Abilene to Stay Unbeaten
Hunter Edington threw four TD passes and ran for another to lead Coleman to a 47-12 win over TLCA Abilene.
Edington threw for 204 yards on 13-of-22 passing and was intercepted once.
Chantz Adams had 14 carries for 63 yards and a TD, along with a team-high 16 tackles and two tackles for loss.
Jayden Smith had three catches for 87 yards and two TDs. Jason Strickland and Nathaniel Guerrero each added a TD catch.
Bryston Story had 10 tackles, four sacks and four tackles for loss, while Jet Black had seven tackles, a sack, three tackles for loss, three QB hurries and a pass breakup.
Coleman (3-0) will host Albany next week.
