AUSTIN, TX — The UIL has upheld its ruling regarding the eligibility of high-profile recruits committed to Georgia and Texas.
On Thursday, July 9, 2026, the UIL deemed both four-star quarterback prospect Colton Nussmeier and cornerback John Meredith ineligible to play in the 2026 Texas high school football season.
The State Executive Committed voted 4-1 regarding Nussmeier, who transferred from Marcus Flower Mound to Denton Ryan, and 3-2 on Meredith after he requested to transfer from Euless Trinity to North Crowley.
Individual district executive committees ruled earlier this year that both players transferred for athletic purposes.
Nussmeier, who committed to play at Georgia, is a top quarterback in the nation for the upcoming year. Last season, Marcus Flower Mound went 5-4 overall and 3-4 in district play as Nussmeier was 100-of-167 passing for 1,390 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception in eight games. The Nussmeier name carries some weight as his brother plays for the Kansas City Chiefs and his father is the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.
Meredith is super talented and, according to 247Sports, is the second-ranked player in the nation and the No. 1 cornerback. He had offers from Ohio State, Alabama and Texas Tech, but on June 19, he committed to Texas.
Last season, Euless Trinity went 8-3 overall and 6-2 in district, good enough for third place. They were beat in the first round of the playoffs by Lake Ridge, 47-38.
