SAN ANGELO, TX — The Central Bobcats claimed yet another dominant home win on Tuesday night, this time against the Midland Bulldogs. Central led from start to finish for a 64-54 win.
Central (26-5, 7-1 in district) led by as much as 21 points in the contest. The Bobcats opened up a 15-4 first-quarter lead, before Midland battled back in the second. Central struggled from beyond the arc early, but made up for it by utilizing excellent passing to find open players underneath the basket.
"We've been working a lot on finishing and making decisions on two feet," head coach Arsenio Geter said after the win. "By slowing down a little bit and being patient, those cuts are going to start opening up. We have really good passing IQ players, so when we slow it down, we see those looks."
Jaylen Franklin was the recipient of several of those passes. He took advantage, scoring multiple baskets underneath the rim. He was also 100% from the free-throw line.
However, as well as the Bulldogs played in stretches, it was never enough as Central began hitting threes in the second half. Almost every Bobcat scored at least one basket in the contest, but it was Trey Allen who had the hot hand. He hit several threes in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
"Trey started shooting really well today," Geter continued. "I hope he can continue that because it's been a bit of a struggle lately. If he can get on fire, and the rest of us can get in sync, it's going to be good stuff."
Next up, the Bobcats hit the road to play a critical matchup against Odessa Permian. The Bobcats currently sit alone in first place at 7-1 in District 2-6A play and could go a long way toward sealing up the district championship with a win against the Panthers on Friday.
Tip-off in that matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
