WALL, TX — The No. 3 Wall Hawks seek to avenge a loss from a year ago when the Hawks travel to Brownwood to take on the Brownwood Lions on Friday night. The Hawks come off a huge, 48-7, win over rival Mason last week and hope to keep the momentum rolling.
Hear Head Coach Slaughter's thoughts ahead of the matchup with Brownwood below:
The Hawks came into the 2025 season with high hopes of a state championship. Last season, Wall came up one game short of a state title berth when the Hawks fell to the eventual state champion, Gunter, 42-32. Wall's only other loss in 2024 was to Brownwood.
The 17-7 loss a year ago came as Wall had recently implemented a brand new offense. Known for years under former Head Coach Houtson Guy for their running game, the Hawks switched things up completely to a spread offense. Expect things to turn out a bit differently this season as Wall has much more experience in this offense under their belt.
Leading the way for the Hawks is second-year quarterback Landon York. York picked apart the Mason defense last week, finishing 11-16 passing, 168 yards through the air, and three touchdowns in just over three quarters of work before the backups came into the game. The young man also added 38 rushing yards on the ground. While capable of putting up even bigger numbers, York took advantage of some big play opportunities before he was done for the day.

Another dangerous aspect of this offense is the plethora of running backs at the Hawks' disposal. Wall's running backs combined for over 150 yards, led by Brady Neal, who rushed ten times for 58 yards. Coach Slaughter seems to be excited about Neal, and expects his production to continue.
On the other side of the field lies the 0-1 Brownwood Lions. The Lions suffered a loss to an incredibly talented Abilene Wylie team last week when Brownwood lost that matchup, 25-0. Stingy at times on defense, the Lions could never quite figure out how to move the ball against Wylie. Brownwood is going through a coaching change this season, and that will continue to show early on this season.
Overall, Wall has an excellent opportunity on Friday night to avenge the loss from a year ago and to beat a team that is three divisions higher than themselves in size.
Kickoff in this matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, September 5.
