AUSTIN, TX — The first official College Football rankings for Week 1 AP Top 25 dropped on Tuesday, September 2. The Longhorns dropped from No. 1 in the nation after the loss to Ohio State, and several other Texas teams fell in the rankings despite opening wins to start the year.

After the Longhorns' 14-7 loss on the road to Ohio State last Saturday, no one is surprised to see Texas drop, but some of these other rankings are raising eyebrows. Despite big wins on opening weekend, both SMU and Texas Tech dropped a spot in the Top 25.
SMU defeated East Texas A&M 42-13 in the Mustangs' opening matchup, while the Texas Tech Red Raiders battled both Arkansas-Pine Bluff and the West Texas elements to claim a 67-7 victory. Say what you want about the strength of schedule, but the drop is surprising in and of itself.
Texas A&M was the lone Texas team not to move at all this week. The Aggies downed UTSA 42-24 in College Station after a lackluster first half turned into a beatdown in the final two quarters.
Finally, Baylor received two votes to join the Top 25 despite falling to the Auburn Tigers 38-24.
Another Texas school that should soon be turning heads is TCU. The Horned Frogs looked incredibly impressive in their 48-7 win over North Carolina in NFL legend Bill Belichick's college football debut.
It is a long season, and even if teams like the Longhorns lost on opening day, there is still plenty of time to climb back up the College Football rankings.
