SAN ANGELO, TX — Across Texas, high school football teams have officially begun their preparation for the 2025 season.
The first Monday in August has long signaled the start of football practices, though Class 6A and 5A schools that held spring practices have to wait another week.
San Angelo Central is the only school in our coverage area that didn’t start Monday.
For everyone else, the first day contact is allowed is Aug. 9, while scrimmages can begin Aug. 14.
The opening Friday night of the season is Aug. 29, though teams can play a day earlier, and there are often numerous Thursday showcase games for Week 1.
Lake View will kick off the season at home against Fort Stockton at San Angelo Stadium, while TLCA will host Tahoka at Lake View Stadium. Central will travel to play Abilene High.
Outside the city limits, we have two of the best small-school teams in the state in Tom Green County.
