Texas State’s Move to Pac-12 Reportedly “Imminent”

SAN MARCOS, TX — After months of rumors about Texas State’s possible jump to the Pac-12, an official offer to join the conference appears to be “imminent,” sources told Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

Texas State has reportedly already informed its current conference, the Sun Belt, of its plans to leave.

The buyout to leave the Sun Belt is $5 million, a number that will raise to $10 million after July 1.

The Pac-12 currently has seven teams with Oregon State, Washington State, Boise State, Utah State, San Jose State, Colorado State and Fresno State.

The conference needs an eighth full-time member to regain eligibility for the College Football Playoff, and Texas State appears poised to fill that role.

The Pac-12 is a longtime powerhouse conference in college athletics, but it nearly fell apart completely after schools like USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington left for the Big Ten, while Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah jumped ship for the Big 12.

Texas State, which is located in San Marcos and formerly known as Southwest Texas State, has enjoyed back-to-back eight-win seasons and won a bowl game each year.
