SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View and Central track and field teams combined for some strong performances Thursday at their respective district meets.
Lake View was hosting the District 5-4A meet at San Angelo Stadium, while Central was competing at the 2-6A meet in Midland.
Lake View’s boys had the best showing with a second-place finish in the team standings behind Lubbock-Cooper Liberty.
The Chiefs won the 4x400-meter relay (3:33.72), while Kentrell Johnson added an individual title in the 200-meter dash (22.00).
The top four finishers in each event advanced to the area meet next week.
Lake View had numerous area qualifiers, including Christian Esparza, who was second in the 110 hurdles (16.01) and third in the 300 hurdles (42.75).
Braylon White was second in the triple jump (43-0), and Jay Roman was second in the discus (130-4).
Francisco Roman was third in the 400 (52.98), while Landon Kvittem was third in the pole vault (12-0) and fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.75) and 300 hurdles (43.98).
The Chiefs also had third-place showings from their 4x100 (43.78) and 4x200 (1:31.47) relays.
Lake View had fourth-place finishes from Calvin Whitfield in the 400 (53.17) and 800 (2:04), and Chris Rodela in the 200 (22.78).
The Lake View girls were fourth in their team standings. Big Spring won the meet by 17 points over Liberty.
Analycia Vasquez led the Maidens by taking second in the triple jump (34-9) and third in the 100 (12.67).
Lea’la Leal was second in the 3200 (14:12), while Juliet Ramirez was third (14:28).
Inyana Ivery was second in the long jump (16-3).
Laurie O’Donnell was third in the discus (88-2.25) and fourth in the shot put (31-8).
Isabella Reyes was fourth in the triple jump (34-1.5). The Maidens also had fourth-place finishes by their 4x100 (51.19) and 4x200 (1:50.32) relays.
Zwiebel leads Central girls at District 2-6A meet
The Central girls were also fourth in the team standings at the 2-6A meet. Frenship won the meet by 33 points over Midland Legacy.
Hanna Zwiebel highlighted the day by running to a dominant win in the 800. Her time of 2:15.46 was more than five seconds ahead of second place.
The Lady Cats’ mile relay also won in 3:57.58.
Sydney Crooks had an outstanding day by taking second in the triple jump (35-6.75), third in the high jump (5-2) and sixth in the long jump 16-5.25).
Naomi Bageant was second in the 300 hurdles (47.71).
Emauri Vinson was third in the 100 (12.36) and third in the 200 (25.20).
The Central boys finished last at their district meet, though the teams were bunched together fairly closely from top to bottom. Legacy won by 15.5 points over Odessa Permian.
Cameron Hash led the Bobcats by taking second in the 3200 (9:52) and fourth in the 1600 (4:37).
The Bobcats had some success in the field events, highlighted by Trey Steele’s second-place showing in the pole vault (13-0).
Tu’Uta Kalamafoni was third in the discus (148-7) and Julian Atilano was fourth in the triple jump (40-10.75).
Tucker Beaty was third in the 400 (51.65), and the Bobcats were second in the 4x100 (42.66) and third in the 4x200 (1:27.90).
Peter Kiganya was fourth in the 100 (11.01) and sixth in the 200 (22.15).
