WALL, TX — Tuesday night was an excellent night for the Wall Hawks' baseball team. After a dominant start to the game, the Hawks' defense shut down the Badgers on offense to close out an early 14-2 district victory.
"Very proud of what we did," Hawks' Head Coach Jeremy Gordon said. "We came out, swung it really well, the ball was jumping off the bat, and we had a big wind coming out of the south."
The wind contributed to several home runs on the night.
Wall shut out Merkel in the top of the 1st inning before putting up three quick runs on the other side. The offensive explosion continued to snowball. Wall scored four runs in the bottom of the 2nd and six more in the 3rd inning. Merkel managed to squeak out two runs overall, but could not keep up in the end. The Hawks scored one more run in the 4th inning to secure the 14-2 run-rule victory after five innings.

Defensively, the Hawks continue to roll, holding opponents to five runs or less in every district game so far this season. Last night was no different. Reid Ballard delivered a masterful performance on the mound, allowing only a single run on the evening, before Gunnar Dillard cleaned up in the top of the 5th inning.
"Reid Ballard on the mound absolutely shoved," Gordon continued. "We had Gunnar Dillard close it out, and it was just a really good overall team win."
Wall returns to action on Friday when the Hawks travel to Clyde to face the Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
