5 Concho Valley Schools in State Volleyball Rankings

AUSTIN, TX — The Concho Valley has five schools represented in this week’s state volleyball rankings.

Wall, which is off to a 17-4 start, broke into the rankings at No. 8 in Class 3A. The Lady Hawks’ highlights include winning the Nita Vannoy Memorial Tournament in San Angelo by sweeping San Angelo Central in the final.

Wall swept another Class 6A school, Midland Lee, last week before losing to 6A Odessa Permian in five sets Tuesday.

Sterling City is ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, though the Lady Eagles were misclassified since the school dropped to 1A in the last realignment. The ranking speaks highly of their success, however, as they won their first nine matches before losing their last two against Christoval.

In Class 1A, we have three ranked teams — Water Valley at No. 5, Veribest at No. 10 and Bronte at No. 11.

Water Valley, which reached the state final last year, is 12-5-1. Veribest, which showed its potential by taking a set off San Angelo Central at the Nita Vannoy Tournament, is 15-7. Tradition-rich Bronte, home to six state titles, has a record of 12-9.

A notable omission from the rankings is 2A Christoval, which is 15-6 and owns wins over Water Valley, Veribest and Sterling City.
