CHICAGO, IL — Former San Angelo Central standout Davis Martin had a strong start to his season Sunday with the Chicago White Sox.
Martin didn’t allow an earned run in six innings of work against the Los Angeles Angels, but it wasn’t enough as his team still lost 3-2.
Martin gave up only four hits while firing 61 of his 91 pitches for strikes. He had two strikeouts and two walks.
Martin opened the season as Chicago’s No. 3 pitcher, and this performance should only solidify his spot in the starting rotation.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Martin overcame Tommy John surgery to make his return last year after missing the 2023 season.
Since debuting in 2022, Martin has made 20 starts in the major leagues.
There was some buzz this offseason around the 28-year-old who has added a kick changeup to his arsenal of pitches.
Martin had an impressive spring, which included an immaculate inning against the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers when he struck out Shohei Ohtani looking.
