Roscoe, Eldorado Girls Finish in Top 3 at State Powerlifting Meet

EDINBURG, TX — The Roscoe and Eldorado girls finished tied for second place in the team standings Wednesday at the Class 1A/2A state powerlifting meet at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg.

Roscoe claimed the tiebreaker over Eldorado due to an individual title by Zoey Welch in the 105-pound category.

Cumby won the team title with 12 points in a tightly contested race. Roscoe and Eldorado each had 10 points, while Rosebud-Lott had 9, and four other teams were tied for fifth with 8 points.

In addition to Welch’s win with a total lift of 745 pounds for Roscoe, two other schools on the fringe of the Concho Valley brought home individual titles.

Coleman’s Courtney Parks was first in the 242-plus class with a total lift of 1,085 pounds, while Colorado City’s Addison Scott was first in the 165 class with a total lift of 1,070 pounds.

Eldorado was led by Maricruz Esparza (second in the 165 class), Amanda Cortez (third in the 114 class), Minelly Montes (fifth in the 105 class) and Lupe Esparza (fifth in the 181 class).

Roscoe also had a third-place finish by Danie Vela in the 123 class.

Other top performances included Junction’s Ashlyn Crabtree (second in the 97 class), Miles’ Allyson Matheny (second in the 148 class), Reagan County’s Mya Rostro (third in the 132 class), Ozona’s Serenity Briggs (third in the 242 class), Ballinger’s Loveli Ornelaz (fourth in the 132 class) and McCamey’s Madyson Loya (fifth in the 220 class).
