SLAYTON, TX — The Wall Hawks traveled to Slayton on Friday, November 22, to play their Area Round Playoff matchup against the Childress Bobcats. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead before Childress slowly clawed their way back in the 2nd quarter. The Wall defense shut down Childress in the 2nd half to claim a dominant 49-14 victory.
Starting quarterback Landon York had himself a night with five touchdowns in the win over Childress. Check out his thoughts after the game below:
Wall won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. On the second play from scrimmage, Landon York hooked up with Briggs Jones on a shovel pass that the young man took for a 60-yard touchdown to give the Hawks an early lead, 7-0.
After a quick three and out, York hit Jones for another quick hitch that Jones turned into another long touchdown. Wall's defense quickly handed the ball back to the offense before York hit Reid Roberton on a 44-yard deep bomb for another score. This one looked like it would get out of hand early with time left in the 1st quarter and the hawks up 21-0.
Childress finally got on the board in the 2nd quarter. It took three 4th down conversions on a long march before the Bocbats finally punched the ball into the end zone. After another touchdown by Jones, Childress answered again on a 4th down touchdown. With less than five minutes to play in the 2nd, Wall led 27-14.
The Hawks would score one more time before the half. Wall forced a punt with 1:09 on the clock and immediately went to work. Jones took a screen pass 48 yards to the Childress 2-yard line before Brylan White punched the ball into the end zone on a designed quarterback run. Wall headed to the locker room up 35-14.
In the 2nd half, the Hawks forced a stop on the first Childress possession out fo the gates to deflate any chances of a comeback. Wall would punch two more touchdowns into the end zone before it was all said and done, and the Hawks claimed victory, 49-14.
