CHRISTOVAL, TX — Needing a win to keep their season alive, the Christoval Cougars pulled off a 25-12 upset win over Ozona on Friday.
Christoval would have missed the playoffs with a loss, but the Cougars will now vault all the way to the No. 2 seed in District 3-2A Division I.
Christoval (4-6) will play Anson (7-3) in the opening round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Sweetwater.
Christoval was 2-6 overall and 1-2 in district play before back-to-back wins over Sonora and Ozona to completely shake up the district standings.
Ozona finished tied with Christoval in second place but will be the No. 3 seed due to Friday’s loss.
The Lions (7-3) will open the playoffs against Hawley (9-1) at a site and time to be determined.

Ballinger Headed to Playoffs After 1-Point Win
The Ballinger Bearcats traveled to Hico on Friday and left town with a 27-26 win that earned them the fourth and final playoff spot from District 5-3A Division I.
The playoff trip is particularly rewarding for a Ballinger team that was 1-19 the last two seasons before this year’s turnaround.
The Bearcats improved to 5-5 overall and will open the playoffs against Tioga (8-2) at 7 p.m. Friday in Boyd.
Junction Completes District-Title Run, First in 21 Years
The Junction Eagles routed Sabinal 64-6 to complete a perfect run through District 14-2A Division II.
It’s the Eagles’ first district title in 21 years.
Just up the road in Menard, the Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Clay Holland, who quarterbacked Junction’s last district-title team. Holland guided Menard to a district title this year also.
Junction (9-1) will open the playoffs against Iola (5-5) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Pflugerville.
Menard Holds Off Eden for District Title
Menard defeated longtime rival Eden 34-18 to claim an undisputed title in District 15-1A Division I.
Eden needed a win to keep its season alive. The Bulldogs finish with a record of 6-4.
Menard (8-1) will open the playoffs against Benavides (5-5) at a site and time to be determined.
Miles Earns Second Place With Win Over Roscoe
The Miles Bulldogs claimed an important 29-13 win over Roscoe on Friday at San Angelo Stadium.
The game was moved from Miles due to heavy rain making the Bulldogs’ field unplayable.
With the win, Miles (8-2) will take the No. 2 seed from District 7-2A Division II into the playoffs, where the Bulldogs will draw Lindsay (7-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Brock.
Miles did most of its damage through the air as sophomore quarterback Liam Yancy was 20-of-27 passing for 275 yards and three touchdowns.
Cooper Ellison had seven catches for 73 yards and two TDs. Sheldon Book had five catches for 72 yards, and Dillon Medina had four catches for 88 yards.
Colton Kelly led the defense with two sacks, two forced fumbles and two tackles for loss.
Miles’ defense had posted three straight shutouts before allowing Roscoe to score twice.
Brady Shuts Out Clifton for No. 2 Seed
The Brady Bulldogs’ defense and running game led the way in a 28-0 win over Clifton that locked up second place in District 5-3A Division II.
Brady didn’t have standout Johnny Menefield, but the Bulldogs still produced two 100-yard rushers. Ashton Taylor had 20 carries for 125 yards and a TD, while Alijah Stark had 14 carries for 106 yards and two TDs.
Brady (8-2) will open the playoffs against Jacksboro (7-3) at 7 p.m. Friday in Clyde.
Mason’s Defense Shines Again in Win Over San Saba
The Mason Punchers posted a 35-0 shutout win over San Saba, continuing the strong play of its defense.
Since a season-opening 28-6 loss to Wall, no team has managed more than 19 points against Mason.
The Punchers also haven’t lost since that game, reeling off nine straight wins and claiming a 14th consecutive district title.
Sutten Silerio led Mason on Friday with eight carries for 179 yards and three TDs. Carlton Schmidt added eight carries for 95 yards and two TDs.
Mason will begin its playoff run against Rosebud-Lott (6-4) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Copperas Cove.
