Angelo State Rams Dominate Defending Conference Champ UT Permian Basin

MIDLAND, TX — The Angelo State Rams would have been happy just to get out of Midland with a win Saturday.

They did a lot more than that, delivering a stunning 36-7 dismantling of defending Lone Star Conference champion UT Permian Basin.

ASU quarterback Braeden Fuller rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by an 86-yard TD run early in the third quarter in which the sophomore showed off his impressive speed.

It gave the Rams a 22-0 lead, and they never looked back on the way to a huge victory that propels them right into the LSC title conversation with No 9-ranked Central Washington.

ASU is now 3-2 overall and 3-0 in LSC play with their third straight win.

The Rams have another big showdown looming next week when they return home to play Texas A&M-Kingsville, which is also still unbeaten in conference play.

That game is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

ASU's defense, which has been outstanding this year in allowing only 12.8 points per game, locked down a UT Permian Basin offense that was averaging over 34 points.

The Rams didn't allow a point in the first 54 minutes of the game.

UTPB quarterback Dylan Graham was knocked out of the game in the first quarter, which surely hampered the Falcons' offense.

ASU's defense scored the first points of the night when linebacker Kenton Allen returned a fumble  5 yards for a TD with 6:04 left in the second quarter.

Fuller found Brayden Wilcox for a 6-yard TD pass with 47 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 15-0 lead at the break.

Fuller's 2-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter gave ASU a 29-0 lead.

UTPB didn't finally find the end zone until a 38-yard TD pass with 5:45 remaining.

Fuller added his third TD run of the night from 4 yards out with 1:52 left to put the finishing touches on the win.

Fuller was a modest 9-of-15 passing for 112 yards and a TD. The Rams didn't need to do too much through the air with the success of their running game and defense.
