SAN ANGELO, TX — The Grape Creek Eagles scored the third-most points in program history Friday with a 74-0 homecoming win over San Angelo TLCA.
The point total nearly eclipsed Grape Creek’s record set in a 78-50 win over Coahoma in 2016.
Grape Creek improved to 2-4 and will host Coahoma next week to open District 4-3A Division II play.
TLCA fell to 0-5 and will visit Sweetwater next week to begin play in District 3-3A Division I.
Water Valley Impresses Again in Win Over Rankin
The Water Valley Wildcats went on the road and earned a 59-14 win over a quality opponent in Rankin.
Anthony Quintana had 15 carries for 79 yards and two TDs, along with two catches for 25 yards and a TD. He also threw a 30-yard TD pass and returned a fumble for a TD.
Landon Lacy had six carries for 71 yards and a TD, and he threw for 80 yards and two TDs on 5-of-9 passing. He had an interception and fumble recovery on defense.
Boston Wiese had eight carries for 58 yards and a TD and led the defense with 12 tackles.
Water Valley is now 4-2 with a two-week break before the start of District 8-1A Division play at home against Veribest.
Rankin fell to 2-3 and will host Garden City next week.
Robert Lee Tops Bronte in Coke County Rivalry
Robert Lee cruised past Bronte 54-8 in the latest chapter of one of the state’s oldest rivalries.
Brenner Sherwood threw for 159 yards and two TDs on 8-of-11 passing, and he rushed for 164 yards and three TDs on 10 carries. He also had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Nick Samaniego had two catches for 77 yards and a TD. Edward Samaniego had 10 tackles to lead Robert Lee’s defense.
Robert Lee (4-2) will host Irion County to open District 8-1A Division I play next week.
Bronte (1-5) will begin District 6-1A Division II play next week at Loraine.
Veribest Rolls to Another Big Win
The Veribest Falcons romped to a 54-0 win over Nueces Canyon on Friday.
It was Veribest’s fifth straight win, all of them coming by the 45-point mercy rule.
Veribest (5-1) will host Paint Rock next week to begin District 8-1A Division I play. Nueces Canyon (1-5) will begin its district play at Medina next week.
