RICHARDSON, TX — Angelo State University volleyball standout Evelyn Torres has been honored as the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her outstanding performances, marking the fourth consecutive week that a player from Angelo State has received a weekly conference accolade.
Torres, a graduate student from Fort Worth, delivered an impressive display over the weekend, averaging 5.75 points per set and posting a .357 hitting percentage as the 14th-ranked Belles secured victories against Midwestern State University and Texas Woman's University in their opening weekend of conference play.
In the match against Midwestern State, Torres recorded 17 kills over three sets, achieving an exceptional .517 hitting percentage with only two attack errors. The following day, she surpassed her previous personal best, registering 25 kills and adding 24 digs to help the Belles overcome a two-set deficit and defeat Texas Woman's. Her performance made her the first player in the conference this season to record a 20-kill, 20-dig double-double.
This season, Torres has consistently contributed to the team's success, averaging 3.65 kills per set with a .236 attack percentage, while also ranking second on the team in digs, averaging 3.15 per set. Her contributions place her fifth in the LSC for kills per set and fourth in points per set, with an average of 4.12.
This recognition marks Torres' second career LSC weekly honor, with her first awarded in January 2021. She joins her teammates Adeline Ortman, Sydney Thorton, and Demi Carter, who have all received weekly honors this season, showcasing the depth and talent of the Angelo State volleyball program.
The Belles will continue their conference schedule this weekend with away matches against West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.
