SAN ANGELO, TX — TJ Rumfield, the son of former San Angelo Colts manager Toby Rumfield, has put himself into consideration for National League Rookie of the Year.
TJ Rumfield has had a strong first season with the Colorado Rockies with a .288 batting average and 13 home runs.
He is currently ranked No. 6 to be named the NL’s Rookie of the Year by ESPN.
TJ Rumfield was a 12th-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021.
His father, Toby, served as the manager of the San Angelo Colts minor league baseball team in 2004 before finishing the season as a player for the team.
Rumfield was drafted in the second round of the 1991 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds and spent four seasons at the Triple A level. He also played for Team USA in the 2003 Baseball World Cup.
In addition to stints as a minor league manager, he also coached high school baseball at Temple and Denton.
He was recently hired as the head baseball coach in the small town of Gordon.
