Cowboy's Owner Not Concerned with New Deal for Superstar Receiver

OXNARD, CA— Dallas Cowboys Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones is not concerned with getting a deal done with one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.

The Cowboys are well into training camp out in Oxnard, California and just had a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams. But it would not be the Cowboys without some drama as Jerry Jones said that there is no urgency to get a deal done with All-Pro receiver Ceedee Lamb, who has not reported to camp.

Jones said, "I don't have any urgency to get it done" when he was asked about the wide receiver getting a new contract.

Lamb, and other current Cowboys players, took notice of Jones’s comment. Lamb removed “America’s Team” from his X bio and All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons also reposted Lamb’s response of “lol.” to Jerry’s comment.

Honestly, a deal will get done with Lamb eventually as he seeks to be paid like one of the best receivers in the league. Last year, he led the league in receptions, put up 1,749 yards, and had 12 touchdowns. He has improved his numbers in receptions, yards, and touchdowns each year since being drafted by the Cowboys.

Before anyone says, "Dak should take less" or "They make too much money, to begin with," NFL players get what the market dictates.

Other news from camp has been promising for the 2024 rookie class. Tyler Guyton, who was the Cowboy’s first-round draft pick out of Oklahoma, has taken over at left tackle, former Notre Dame linebacker Marist Liufau, was listed as a starter on defense, and former Wake Forest cornerback Caelen Carson may be another late-round find as he has been making plays all camp long.

One thing fans cannot take away from the Cowboys' scouting department is their ability to hit on offensive linemen in the draft. Since taking Tyron Smith out of USC in 2011 in the first round, the Cowboys have taken Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, Tyler Smith, and Guyton. Besides Guyton, all four of those players played at a high level, being named, at one point or another, one of the best at their position.

Speaking on Carson, the Cowboys also find talented defensive backs that contribute at some point. Former Cowboy cornerback Anthony Brown played at a high level and was a sixth-round pick. Jourdan Lewis, a third-round pick, has played well. Michael Jackson, a 2019 fifth-round pick out of Miami, has been solid for Seattle. The cherry on top is 2022's fifth-round pick out of Fresno State DaRon Bland, who set an NFL record last season for pick sixes with five interceptions returned for touchdowns.

Now, Carson looks to be the next later-round pick that contributes to a very talented Cowboy secondary. All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs is back from a knee injury and led the NFL in interceptions a couple of seasons ago.

The Dallas Cowboys play in their first preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, August 11, at 3:30 p.m.
