Texas A&M has hired Michael Earley as its next head baseball coach, according to multiple reports.
Earley, 36, has served as the Aggies' hitting coach for the last three seasons, helping lead the program to a pair of College World Series appearances.
Earley had agreed to leave for the University of Texas and remain a part of Jim Schlossnagle's staff in Austin, but the Aggies were able to quickly hire him back from their top rivals.
Earley helped coach an A&M offense that was fourth in the nation with a program-record 136 home runs last year. A&M was also first in walks and sixth in runs scored.
Perhaps just as important, Earley may be able to help secure some continuity within the program and prevent the roster from breaking apart after the best season in program history.
The Aggies went 53-15 last year and came within one win of their first national title.
Earley was previously an assistant for five years at Arizona State University.
