WALL, TX — The No. 2 Wall Hawks and No. 7 Wall Lady Hawks baseball and softball teams hosted the Clyde Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs at Wall High School on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks took care of business and run-ruled the Bulldogs while the Lady Hawks struggled to keep the Lady Bulldogs off the board.
No. 2 Wall 11 Clyde 1
The Wall Hawks played the second of a two-game district series this week on Thursday. After narrowly escaping the Bulldogs on the road on Tuesday (Wall won 1-0), the Hawks had something to prove. One of the Hawks’ aces, Kellen Olliver, had the ball on the mound on Thursday and pitched a solid, five-inning performance.
The Hawks’ offense recovered from the slow bout on Tuesday with several multi-run innings. Headed to the bottom of the 5th inning, Wall led 9-1 with the opportunity to close the game early with two more runs. The Hawks loaded the bases after a walk and two singles. A sac-fly from Augden Hallmark scored one to extend the lead to 10-1. Clyde had the opportunity to make it out of the inning but walks doomed the Bulldogs. The Hawks scored another run off the walks and claimed victory, 11-1.
Head Coach Jeremy Gordon gave his thoughts on his team’s performance after the game. Watch the full interview below:
The Hawks improve to 20-3 on the season and 7-0 in district. Wall returns to action on Monday, April 1, when the Hawks host the Ballinger Bearcats for a district matchup at home. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
No. 7 Lady Hawks 6 No. 25 Clyde 12
The Lady Hawks dropped their second game in a row to the Lady Bulldogs out in Wall on Thursday. Wall jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after the first inning, but the Lady Bulldogs did not let that lead stand. Clyde scored five runs in the second to take a 6-3 lead and never looked back.
Wall battled back with two runs in the 5th inning to narrow the Lady Bulldogs' advantage to 6-5, but another monster inning from Clyde put the game away. Clyde scored six runs in the 6th inning and built a 7-run cushion heading into the final inning. Wall scored one run in the 7th but fell in the end, 12-6.
Wall finished their day with six runs scored on 11 hits. Clyde had 13 hits, turned into 12 runs. The Lady Hawks battled hard in this two-game series but still have work to do after they dropped two straight.
The Lady Hawks return to action at home on Monday, April 1, against Ballinger. First pitch will be at noon.
