The unequipped division is new to the State Powerlifting competitions this year. Usually, competitors wear bench press shirts and squat suits and wrap their knees before they lift to give themselves every advantage in lifting the heaviest weight. In the unequipped division, none of those “lifting aids” are allowed. A natural consequence of not using equipment is lower lifts. Ashly still managed to near the 1000 lb mark, which is nothing less than impressive.

Check out her three lifts below:

  • Squat - 330 lbs
  • Bench - 125 lbs
  • Deadlift - 370 lbs
  • Total - 825 lbs

Two fellow members of the Grape Creek Boys Powerlifting team, Budah Schkade and Isaac Silva, also qualified for the State Competition and are set to compete in Frisco on March 23. Congratulations to all the student-athletes who made it to the State Meet and congratulations to Ashly for her historic win.
