CHRISTOVAL— The Christoval Lady Cougars are set for war with the Ozona Lady Lions tomorrow night in Christoval.
The Lady Cougars are undefeated in district play and have already beat the Lady Lions in Ozona, 45-42.
“They’re going to come in with a chip on their shoulder,” Christoval Lady Cougar’s Head Coach Brad Blalock said, “I’m pleased with the week of practice so far though.”
It may seem crazy, but this Lady Cougar team is still fairly young with six juniors out there, led by Halle Hughes, Madyson George, and senior Braylee Silva. There also isn’t any drop off when Blalock subs in one of his bench players, which bodes well for the future of his program.
One thing the Lady Cougars are focused on is the comeback the Lady Lions tried to make behind a huge fourth quarter from Kelyn Gass and Faith Quiroz, who had eight points apiece in the fourth alone. Christoval managed to score six and hold the lead, but Ozona ate up a lot of ground coming out of the third where the Lady Cougars were up, 39-26.
Ozona features a lot of seniors on their squad who have taken to a new head coach, Steve Scott, and are 27-4 overall and 10-1 in district whereas the Lady Cougars, also under the new management of Blalock, are 23-7 overall and 10-0 in district.
The Lions are coming to C-Town tomorrow to try and exact their revenge on the Lady Cougars at 6:15 p.m. with the Christoval Cougars taking on the Ozona Lions right after at 7:45 p.m.
