JACKSONVILLE, FL — The National Football League levied a fine of $300,000 against Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper following the circulation of a video on social media showing him discarding a beverage into a crowd during the team's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
The NFL addressed the issue, stating that Tepper's actions in Jacksonville during the game were deemed unacceptable. "All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL," read the statement.
A video shared online captured Tepper tossing the contents of his drink towards Jaguars fans from his suite at Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium, as reported by ESPN. The game concluded with the Panthers suffering a 26-0 loss against the Jaguars.
The exact reason prompting Tepper's action remained unclear. The incident occurred after Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was intercepted with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game.
In response to the situation, Tepper expressed regret, acknowledging his passionate stance about the team and admitting his remorse for his behavior during the game. "I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior," Tepper stated.
Notably, past incidents have resulted in fan bans from stadiums for throwing drinks at players.
