The most exciting match of the weekend was undeniably the Port Neches Grove victory over South Oak Cliff. A great defensive battle ended with several field goals, and PNG’s kicker, Gio Oceguera even received Offensive MVP honors for his performance.
DeSoto was far and away the most impressive team to watch in the Eagles’ win over Summer Creek. Although Duncanville and North Shore featured the same quality of athletes, DeSoto absolutely dominated on Texas High School Football’s biggest stage.
One West Texas team represented our area well with its 2nd consecutive state title. The Albany Lions dominated another state title game with Texas Tech University commit Adam Hill capped off his high school football career with Offensive MVP honors and now sets his sights on bigger and better things. He should excel at Texas Tech, and the Red Raiders will gain a truly talented football player.
Finally, Benjamin won back-to-back titles this season with its win over Oglesby. We, as high school football fans, should appreciate Grayson Rigdon for the athlete he is, as we saw another incredible performance in the Six-man division. It may be a hot take, but Rigdon might even be one of the best, if not the best, Six-Man players to ever suit up.
