Bobcats Move to Winner's Bracket at the Doug McCutchen Memorial

SAN ANGELO, TX — Three San Angelo High Schools compete in the 2023 Doug McCutchen Memorial Basketball Tournament this weekend. The competition tipped off with Round 1 on Thursday, November 30, and schools from all over Texas traveled to San Angelo to compete.

CENTRAL BOBCATS 60 V.R. EATON 51

The Bobcats put up a solid defensive effort against Eaton in Round 1. Baskets were tough to come by throughout, but several Bobcats scored more than 10 points to claim victory. Squeaky English led the 'Cats with 16 points, followed by Hayden Schmidt with 14 points, Kollin Allbright with 11 points, and TK Taylor with 11. Eaton went on a run to pull within five points in the final minute, but solid free throw shooting from Hayden Schmidt sealed the deal. Central moves on to the winner's bracket, where they will face Lubbock Cooper on Friday at Central High School at noon.

LAKE VIEW CHIEFS 50 CADDO MILLS 65

The Chiefs played hard throughout this contest but fell short in the second half. At one point, Lake View pulled within five points in the 4th quarter, but Caddo Mills turned several turnovers into quick baskets to pull away in the end. The Chiefs head to the consolation bracket and will face the winner of TLCA San Angelo and San Antonio Brandeis at 1 p.m. at Lake View High School.

TLCA EAGLES 27 EL PASO YSLETA 38

A cold start doomed the Eagles in their opening matchup. While TLCA played their usual brand of hard-nosed defense, the ball just would not fall on the offensive end. Head Coach Kent Sherrill will have these Eagles ready to play tomorrow when they face San Antonio Brandeis at Lake View High School on Friday at 9 a.m.
