BEREA, OH — After the loss of Nick Chubb in the Browns’ Monday Night Football matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland took the first step to patch the hole Chubb’s absence has left in the Browns’ offense. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns are bringing back running back Kareem Hunt.
Hunt signed a 1-year deal worth up to $4 million on Wednesday, a source told Schefter. Hunt played the last four seasons in Cleveland as a complimentary option at running back to Nick Chubb. The Browns released the veteran running back in the offseason, but Hunt never found a new team.
Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt will spearhead the Browns’ rushing attack moving forward. Hunt’s familiarity with Cleveland’s offense likely played a critical role in the decision to bring him back. However, Ford is still expected to be the Browns’ feature back moving forward.
Hunt rushed for 1,874 yards from 2019-2022. At 4.2 yards per carry, he was better than some starters in the NFL. He will add a needed punch to Ford’s running style. Notably, Kareem Hunt is also an “every down” back, as he caught 132 passes for 973 yards while playing with the Browns.
The Browns host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 24, at noon.
