Cowboys Lock up Former Texas Tech Red Raider with Contract Extension

ARLINGTON— The Dallas Cowboys have locked up a former Texas Tech Red Raider with a contract extension over the Labor Day weekend.

The Cowboys have signed 26-year-old right tackle, Terence Steele, to a five-year contract extension worth $86.8 million with $50 million guaranteed. The Cowboys have not been scared to hand out money this offseason with cornerback Trevon Diggs, safety Malik Hooker, and offensive guard Zack Martin receiving big time extensions and running back Tony Pollard getting the franchise tag.

Steele was an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech in 2020 and has proved his worth, fighting his way not only onto the team, but into the starting lineup. Last season, Steele had six penalties and only allowed one sack according to PFF. Over his career, he has started 40 games and had 18 penalties.

Steele also has one catch for one yard that went for one touchdown against the Washington Commanders in 2021.

The starting right tackles did injure himself last season, suffering a knee injury. Steele is expected to start against the New York Giants in the season opener on September 10, 2023.

According to Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones, quarterback Dak Prescott is getting an extension as Jones said, “We expect Dak to be with us a long time.”. Not only Prescott, but wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons should be next in line to receive new contracts.
