Texas Tech's Jaylon Hutchings Makes Watchlist for the Lombardi Award

HOUSTON, TX — The Lombardi Award preseason watchlist was announced by the Lombardi Award organization on Tuesday, August 15. Texas Tech’s Jaylon Hutchings was one of 80 players announced for the watchlist to win the award. The Lombardi Award is an award annually presented to the college football offensive or defensive lineman who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi in addition to the athlete’s outstanding performance and ability.

Hutchings enters 2023 as a super senior and in his last season with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He is one of the country’s top defensive linemen and has accumulated impressive stats at Texas Tech up to this point in his career. Hutchings has totaled 149 career tackles, including 18.5 tackles for a loss and 7.5 sacks. Last season, Hutchings had 50 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss.

On Monday, August 14, the senior defensive tackle was named to the Bednarik Award watch list (College Defensive Player of the Year). He is also on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watchlist (top defensive player in college football) and the Outland Trophy preseason watchlist (awarded to College football’s best interior lineman).
