Lake View Boys' Soccer Finishes Undefeated

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs played their regular season finale on Tuesday, March 14, against Midland Greenwood at the San Angelo Sports Complex at 5 p.m. After a back-and-forth battle left the Chiefs just a one-goal advantage at the half, Lake View's offense exploded in the second frame with four second-half goals. The Chiefs claimed victory 5-0.

"Hats off to Greenwood. They're a very competitive and physical team, " Head Coach Matthew Jones said of the competition. "It was a district game at the end of the day. The boys played hard and executed our game plan flawlessly."

Defensively, Lake View handled Greenwood's speed down the field and kept the ball out of the final third all day. After Greenwood kept the game close during the first half, Christian Gatlin and Tyler Dunn showed how talented they could be on offense. In fact, Dunn's goal in the final 15 minutes slammed an exclamation point on not only the game but the Chiefs' entire season.

Overall, it was a historic night for the Chiefs as they finished their regular season with a near-perfect mark, 20-0-1. Their only blemish on the regular season being a tie in a non-district game against Lubbock High, a 5A school in a higher division. Nevertheless, Lake View remained undefeated.

After the game, we asked Coach Jones, how far can this Lake View team go? With a serious look on his face, he answered honestly.

"As far as they want if they put their mind to it. 20-0-1? I didn't think it was possible, but they proved me wrong time and time again. Now we have to go play a tough El Paso Riverside team, and hopefully, we come out on top," he said.

Just prior to the interview Jones took a well-deserved Gatorade bath courtesy of his players. He laughed and spoke about how special the moment was with his team, and Lake View celebrated their victory.

The Chiefs enter the playoffs next week as District Champions and a one-seed. They get a 4th-place El Paso Riverside squad that played in a tough district themselves, but Coach Jones is confident that his team has what it takes to claim victory. Official game time and location will be announced as soon as more information is available.
